Media Vocabulary

Here I will list the vocabulary for the features used to describe a Magazine front cover. These will also be keywords I will have to use when I analyse magazine front covers

Puff - The stand out parts of a magazine which which is used to promote the content of inside to entice the reader to purchase it

House Style - The colour, font and design the writing and headings are in. Usually stays the same for the popular magazines.

Pug - Usually found in the top corners of a magazine, the price is normally found here and is often referred to as the "ears" of the magazine

Masthead - The title of the magazine

Buzz Words - Words that attract the customer to buy the magazine such as "new" and "exclusive"

Strap Line - A slogan or a catchy sentence

Anchorage Text - The way the text is positioned on the page to show the importance of an image

Banner - Text which stands out against the background

By Line - Usually found in a magazine, tells the reader who has written the article
